Weekly Inspo: DROPTOKYO

I just recently found this website, DROPTOKYO.com, and I am in love. I literally got lost in this website looking at all of the outfits. So many caught my eye, as you can see haha.
I've mentioned in previous posts that I really like Japanese fashion and tokyofashion.com, and this website just adds to my love for Japanese fashion. I feel like people are more at ease to express themselves fully through clothing without worrying about rude comments or weird looks. People celebrate fashion that isn't the norm.
I find a lot of good ideas and inspiration through Japanese fashion. The photos I liked on DROPTOKYO.com made me wish for fall so I could layer clothes again haha (not that the heat in my room wasn't already making me wish for that).
It's also inspiring me to try different prints together. One person whose looks I really liked was Mappy. She's in a picture I included. Her fashion is like everything I aspire to achieve and she's only 13 years old. Damn.

For music, I've decided to add one of my favorite songs from my favorite anime, FLCL.

Hope you all enjoyed this inspo post! Thanks for reading, or just looking.

Tutorial: Maxi Skirt with slits

Hey, everyone! For a while, I've been having the urge to make a maxi skirt with slits since many months ago when I binged through flourshur.com and saw these pictures.

Sorry for the crappy comp pic of them. I wish I could find the originals, but she's posted so many things that it would take many hours before finding these pics again.
I posted these pics from Flourshur before in an inspiration post a couple weeks ago. I really like her fashion.

I also saw this picture on tumblr that further increased my need to make a slit maxi skit.
I posted this pic on my most recent inspo post.

I really like the silhouette of a maxi skirt that's tight around the hips with slits to the knee, so I looked up a tutorial on google and found this great tutorial from Fine and Feathered. I was able to alter it somewhat for my own wants very easily. So, here is what I did:

I bought around 1.75 yards of a stretchy microsuede. It's really soft and comfy. You'll also need 1 inch wide elastic.

First, I spread out my fabric and measured what length I wanted my skirt to be + 4 inches.

Then I folded the fabric to the width of my waist all the way down to make a rectangle, with wrong side out. I pinned the open side till my knee. I tried it on to make sure it was to my knee, and then cut the other side to the same height.

Once it's to your liking, sew up the pinned side. Then fold a waistband on the inside of the skirt. I folded a bit over an inch and then curved in a seam allowance. Leave about 2 inches open to pull the elastic through.

I used a braided elastic, but it curled when I pulled the skirt up. So I recommend using the stronger elastic that is used in the Fine and Feathered tutorial. With the braided tutorial, I had to sew up vertically at parts around the waistband like this.

Once you've pulled the elastic through (use a safety pin to help it through easier), pin the elastic together and try on the skirt to make sure it's tight enough. When it is, sew the elastic and waistband closed.

Next, I sewed up the seams on slits. You don't have to if you cut the slits evenly, but I did not. I only folded it once to do the seams since knit fabrics don't fray.

The last thing I did was hem the bottom of skirt. Again, you don't have to since knit fabric doesn't fray.

And you're done!!

You can wear it with a plain tank for a casual outfit or spruce it up with a blazer or printed crop top.
This skirt can look really elegant with the right accessories!

Hope you all enjoyed the tutorial and try it out if you want! Send me the pics if you do :)

Weekly Inspo

(sources: tumblr.com, lookbook.nu, nylon mag, modcloth, american apparel)

Hey, everyone! How're u guys?

This week's inspo is a little late. I've been busy studying for the foreign service officer test. Wasn't the best plan to wait a couple of days before the test to study because I don't follow news or politics at all.

Anyway!  I've decided to make a habit of posting inspo posts like every Sunday I think. I see so many cool pictures on Nylon's Facebook and on tumblr that I thought it would be cool to share and compile them. Hopefully, it inspires my small amount of readers too hehe

Maybe in the future I will make a post with all of the links and blogs I follow for fashion inspiration! What do you guys think? Interested?

I think my tastes are very broad. I love 90s fashion and Japanese fashion in general. I like to include a little bit of everything in these posts. I've really been feeling boyish fashion lately, so I added some! Also I wore a boyish outfit yesterday when I went to Burlington, but it was a little too hot for pants!

On the other hand, I'm really feeling light pinks and am making a silk slip dress currently and slowly. Hopefully, it turns out good. I'm making it to wear at my friends wedding I'm going to in July. All I have right now is the image in my head of how it could look, so I'm hoping it works out! Fingers crossed I guess hehe. Well, not while sewing! Also planning on making a tulle maxi to put over it. Will definitely post a DIY for it once I'm done. Got lots of work to do!
Also, the t-shirt rompers here could be a super easy DIY!

Sewing Corner

printed shirt: thrifted | corduroy skirt: handmade

Hey, peeps! Here's my look from today. I've been wanting to wear this shirt for a while, and I wanted to include this wall in the background of one of my looks for a while ! So I combined them.
I've been doing a lot of crafts lately since I was able to go to Walmart to get some stuff. Look forward to a sculpey accessory once I get the last thing I need. Don't know when that'll be though :u

This corner is where I do all my sewing. I have a nice set up with my laptop right next to it so I can listen to/watch videos while I sew. Been running out of playthroughs lately though! So if any of you have a playthrough to recommend, please tell me! :)

When I was at Walmart, I heard this song playing, and it just took me back. I forgot about it and hearing it after so long brought me into this nostalgic state where I softly sang along and danced in my place. I hope you experience the same thing
